Great White Egret
So phototainable's back in Houston, and my first new shots are from Audubon's High Island wildlife sanctuary. This egret seems to be contemplating something, but what exactly?
I was reading an article about the Sweedish wildlife photographer Brutus Ostling who has just released a new book, Life on the Wing. In the article written in Outdoor Photographer I learned that the great white egret signals it availability to mate through not only the lovely whispy plummage, but by a change to the tissue between the bill and the eye. This normally pale yellow tissue turns to a 'bright pastel green' as shown in my picture above, to indicate it is in good health.
I hope to spend some more time with these lovely birds capturing their behaviour more closely.
