Great White Egret

Great White Egret

So phototainable's back in Houston, and my first new shots are from Audubon's High Island wildlife sanctuary. This egret seems to be contemplating something, but what exactly? I was reading an article about the Sweedish wildlife photographer Brutus Ostling who has just released a new book, Life on the Wing. In the article written in Outdoor Photographer I learned that the great white egret signals it availability to mate through not only the lovely whispy plummage, but by a change to the tissue between the bill and the eye. This normally pale yellow tissue turns to a 'bright pastel green' as shown in my picture above, to indicate it is in good health. I hope to spend some more time with these lovely birds capturing their behaviour more closely.
